Inaugural Winter Stations winning installations brighten up Toronto's Beach locale

Why limit outdoor festivities to only the summer season? The inaugural Winter Stations design competition invited architects around the globe to propose lively but winter-resilient temporary installations to be built in the heart of Toronto's Beach neighborhood.
For its first run, the competition had a great start with reeling in just under 200 submissions from 36 countries. In the end, the jury selected five winning entries.

The winners of the Winter Stations 2014-2015 competition are:
- Driftwood Throne by Daniel Madeiros
- Sling Swing by Ed Butler, Dan Wiltshire, and Frances McGeown
- Hot Box by Michaela MacLeod and Nicholas Croft
- Wing Back by Timothy Olson
- Snow Cone by Lily Jeon and Diana Koncan
The installations are on public display until March 22, 2015.

- Shauna Levy, Design Exchange President
- Peter Hargraves, Sputnik Architects Principal
- Mary-Margaret McMahon, Toronto City Councilor
