With December almost here, plenty of people have begun frantically preparing for holiday festivities. On top of the demands of everyday life, people will surely need a moment to take a quick break from it all. One chill-out spot worth stopping by during the holidays is “Flatiron Sky-Line”, which was unveiled in New York City's Flatiron District last week.
Designed by local architecture practice LOT, the installation was the winner of the Van Alen Institute and the Flatiron/23rdStreet Partnership's third annual Flatiron Public Plaza Holiday Design Competition. Last year, SOFTLab won the commission with their dazzling “Nova” proposal.

“Flatiron Sky-Line” comprises of 10 large contiguous arches constructed from white power-coated steel tubes, which are then illuminated by LED lights at night. Each arch will also feature a suspended hammock, on which passers-by can sit and relax and admire the district's architectural surroundings.
“Flatiron Sky-Linecreatesa dynamic new social space underneath its illuminated arches,” LOT co-founder Leonidas Trampoukis said. “The simplicity of the design draws in passersby and inspires them to savor this iconic intersection.”
“Flatiron Sky-Line” is open every day from 9 a.m.-9 p.m. at the North Flatiron Public Plaza (at Broadway, Fifth Avenue, and 23rd Street) throughout the holiday season.
