For the first time in the biennial award’s decade-long history, ten new projects representing practices based exclusively in Latin America have been named to the 2022 Mies Crown Hall Americas Prize’s MCHAP.emerge prize shortlist.
The selected projects will compete to become the fourth winner of the prize behind Pezo von Ellrichshausen’s Poli House (2014), PRODUCTORA’s Zócalo Pavilion (2016), and Rozana Montiel’s 2018 Common Unity design, which took home the award's last edition before a two-year COVID-induced hiatus.
Winners of the prize will go on to a one-year research professorship at the Illinois Institute of Technology (IIT) and a $25,000 grant to be put toward their ongoing teaching and research activities. This year’s group included six residential constructions in addition to a linear park, concert venue, nursery, and dam project that were all completed between 2018 and 2021, respectively.
The best project will be announced along with the overall MCHAP winner in September. Scroll down to see the photos of all ten shortlisted designs.
