Since 2008, the North American Copper in Architecture (NACIA) awards distinguishes some of the most innovative copper and copper alloy architectural design across the U.S. and Canada. The competition also celebrates copper, a reliable, old friend in the architectural industry due to the material's longevity, recyclability, and appealing natural finish.
This year's 15 copper-clad winners include the University of Arizona's Phoenix Biomedical Campus, the Staten Island Courthouse in New York, and five Canadian buildings, among others. “The outstanding quality and ingenuity of the copper projects submitted over the past ten years is truly inspiring,” said Stephen Knapp, the Director of the Sheet, Strip, & Plate Council for the Copper Development Association. “Every year I am amazed by the innovative ways copper is being applied.”
To celebrate the NACIA Awards' 10th edition, the copper, architectural, and construction industries, as well as the general public picked 10 top copper projects from the last decade, which comprise a mixture of historic and modern buildings.
