Twenty projects from around the world have been shortlisted for the prestigious Aga Khan Award for Architecture, which highlights building concepts in parts of the world with significant Muslim populations. Presented every three years, the $1 million prize is unique for being one of the largest awards among architecture competitions, and for being the only to recognize all parties involved, from architects to builders, mayors, and engineers.
Among the twenty shortlisted projects this year is a concrete cultural hub in Dubai designed by OMA; Snøhetta's Muttrah Fish Market in Muscat, Oman; the limestone-clad Palestinian Museum by Heneghan Peng; and a development program in Russia that revitalized over 328 public spaces in Tatarstan.
